Abstract

This article presents a comparative study between 6-pulse and 12-pulse uncontrolled three- phase rectifiers, focusing on the analysis of harmonic distortions generated by each topology. Rectifiers are widely used in industrial systems for converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), being essential in applications such as electric drives, power supply systems, and electrochemical processes. However, the presence of harmonics in the power grid can cause several problems, such as additional losses, equipment overheating, and interference in communication systems. Through simulations and a literature review, the total harmonic distortion (THD) levels of the input currents of both configurations were evaluated. The results show that the 12-pulse rectifier (THD between 8% and 10%) performs significantly better in harmonic mitigation compared to the 6-pulse rectifier (THD between 27% and 31%).
